Alien, in a 'spit' second

Saliva tastes so comforting, so vapid.. so neutral. You spit it out into a glass and you try drinking it, it suddenly tastes so conspicuous. Alien. Does that mean our senses perceive things that come from outside quite different from the way they perceives the ones inside, even when both are the same?
